Alvaro Barrington's text first appeared in Garvey! magazine, published by Sadie Coles HQ in 2019. Barrington writes in letter form, telling the story of a new bike and the prejudices that haunt young black men in America. Dear Mamas is Barrington's love letter to the women in his life, women who made room in their own lives in order to protect him and future generations.
